Wednesday, June 22, 2005 AD Crime A woman on the next street over from my house was robbed at knifepoint at 8 p.m. (still light out) on her front porch one evening last week. Just got an e-mail that a woman in my former church was robbed at gunpoint a couple weeks ago at 2 a.m. when she was returning home from work. As my mother says, "Are you sure you don't want to get out of the city and move up here?" Sometimes I'm not so sure. But until somebody plants a good church within an hour's drive of mom's house, I'm not likely to be tempted. There are worse things to risk than being a crime victim, and if you'll pardon a little bit of gnosticism, I'm more concerned with the safety of my soul than with the safety of my body.
Man...things are crazy around here today! On that same street, there were cars flying everywhere a couple minutes ago and there's a helicopter circling right above the street. They are clearly chasing somebody...I can hear a loudspeaker or something saying "They're going northbound on P----, into the treeline." Hmmm...you think maybe this would be a good time to make sure my doors are locked?
Now the chopper is making a wider circle, which encompasses my house. I did lock the front door (the back was already locked) and gave thanks that I now have windows that open, so I can still have some air. Posted by Valerie (Kyriosity) at 6/22/2005 07:50:00 AM
